Body of kayaker found on Lake Wyassup in North Stonington


NORTH STONINGTON, Connecticut – Emergency crews recovered the body of a kayaker on Sunday morning at Lake Wyassup.

Officials said the 45-year-old kayaker got out on the water around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night and did not return. The kayak was found unmanned on Sunday morning. DEEP Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon), State Police Troop E, Taftville Fire, Old Mystic Fire, Pawcatuck Fire, North Stonington Fire and the The regional dive team all helped with the search.

Divers recovered the man’s body from underwater on Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead at 11:40 am The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The identity of the victim will not be disclosed until the next of kin have been informed.
