City of Tucson to reopen Section 8 housing waitlist on January 3

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) – The City of Tucson announced plans to reopen its Section 8 housing waitlist in early 2023, Jan. 3.

The waiting list has not been available to applicants since 2017. Since then, the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) says it has exhausted its existing waiting lists, meaning the city has helped anyone who had been on a housing waiting list in the past six years.

Low-income Tucsonians will be able to pre-apply for affordable housing on the new site, which was recently posted online. Applicants will be selected using a lottery system starting in February 2023.

In anticipation of a large number of applicants who may not have Internet access in their current living situation, HCD says it is working with nonprofits, other agencies, and community partners to provide access. public to computers.
