Are you looking for a new career but don’t know where to start? I am here to help. I have been in your shoes, working over 40 hours a week, and have now found success as a consultant working with companies like Universal Music Group, 21st Century Fox, and Disney. Let me teach you how to grow your brand, find customers through social media marketing on Linkedin and Twitter. If any of these steps seem daunting or too difficult, don’t worry – I’ve included a LinkedIn script below that caught my first client in three days.

1. Define your target market

It is very important to decide who you want to work with. I’ll go through a few examples below, but it could include anyone from Fortune 500 business marketers or entrepreneurs looking for consulting services in their industry.

For example, suppose your target market is entrepreneurs looking for consulting services specializing in social media marketing. In this case, you can start by searching for companies present on Linkedin or Instagram. You can also join LinkedIn and Facebook groups related to topics such as “Social Media Marketing”. At this point, it’s up to you to decide how far you want to go to find potential leads. It is crucial that you know who your target market is and what area they are in so that you can approach them.

2. Build relationships

Public speaking is a great way to build relationships with potential clients. Many successful consultants have found leads speaking at events such as TEDx and other marketing conferences. Ultimately, deciding who you want to work with and then focusing your efforts on finding them is essential. It may take a while, but if these are the people you are most passionate about, it will be worth it in the end.

You want relationships, so don’t come across as being dishonest or self-promoting when you reach out. It can help to keep a few stats handy, such as how many friends you know who have benefited from your counseling strategies and advice.

3. Learn how to sell yourself

Spending time on LinkedIn sharing content on your feed, commenting, and engaging with other influencers will help you build a strong network and generate leads. I use it to build partnerships by contacting companies with which my business shares a target market or overlapping customer base. One effective technique is to share your expertise with marketers, follow them up, wait for them to follow you, and then send a message with your contact details. Here is one of the most compelling scripts that helped me land my first client.

“Hi [name], I spent years working [companies you’ve worked for] while working closely with amazing people like [mutual connection you know well]. I see incredible potential in your business and would love to be a part of it in any way.

My main focus is growth marketing, with a lot of writing experience [publications you’ve written for] for the same audience and the same users that you seem to attract.

I’d like to tell you more about how my skills could help you meet and exceed your growth goals in Q4.

Thank you for logging in here on Linkedin. “

4. Find customers and never give up!

If there is one piece of advice I can give on finding work as a consultant, it would be to never give up. I learned this by pursuing a secondary activity while studying in Sweden.

At the time, I was struggling to find work and ended up applying for an unpaid project at a respected university. The professor agreed but told me it wouldn’t be worth my time unless I could bring in at least one research sponsor over six months, a tall order considering how many people are already on their list. listing.

After much deliberation, I still decided to embark on the project, wondering what is the worst that can happen? Fortunately, using the Linkedin script described above, three companies I contacted expressed interest in hiring me as a consultant.

I am living proof that anyone can win their first tip of $ 200,000. It is not easy, but it is possible and worth it to have a flexible life with more free time with your family. It took me years, so don’t be discouraged if things are moving slowly from the start. Sometimes the wait is what makes it all worth it in the end.
