The country’s tourism master plan will be ready by December 2022
Dhaka: The long-awaited master plan to capitalize on the promising tourism potentials of the country will be ready by December 2022. Already, phase 1 of master plan preparation has been completed while work on phase 2 is underway and 3 – the last – will be completed by the end of this year.
The announcement was made during a workshop on the Draft Strategic Master Plan (Phase 2) for the preparation of the Tourism Master Plan for Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu International Convention Center in the capital on May 26.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali attended the event as Chief Guest, Secretary Md Mokammel Hossain as Chairman and Standing Committee Member Sayeda Rubina Akter as as a special guest.
Senior officials from the ministry and national tourism organizations were also present on the occasion, as well as well-known actors and media personnel.
During the workshop, a representative of IPE Global, the international consulting firm engaged by the government in the preparation of the tourism master plan, made a detailed presentation of the work completed, in progress and to be carried out respectively within the framework preparation of the tourism master plan. .
The Phase 1 situational analysis is complete. The phase 2 strategic master plan is underway.
Phase 2 includes the development of a detailed tourism master plan, the preparation of a regional and structural plan, a national workshop, a niche product development plan and a conceptual architectural plan.
The second phase is to be completed by September 2022, a farm representative said during the presentation.
The third and final phase 3 will start in September and end in December 2022 and will include an action plan with an investment and financial strategy, a national workshop, a marketing and promotion strategy, a draft tourism master plan , a final tourism master plan and a national workshop.
On this occasion, Md Mahbub Ali, Minister of State in charge of Civil Aviation and Tourism, declared: “To successfully prepare the tourism master plan, a concerted effort by all parties concerned, private and public, is essential. The way we are progressing with the works, even after several global hurdles like the Covid-19 pandemic, shows that we will surely succeed in completing the master plan by December 2022.’
In his speech, Md Mokammel Hossain, Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism, urged all national plans and targets such as Tourism Master Plan, Delta Plan, Sustainable Development Goals, etc. align with each other.
“This is the only way to make the development of tourism and any other sector sustainable,” he said.
The Secretary also echoed the Minister of State’s call, saying there is no alternative to concerted efforts in this regard.
